⚡Question Of The Week⚡

 Q: — 2026 NEC
A single-pole wall switch controls a ceiling luminaire. The switch box is in a finished wall and is wired with NM-B cable. The switch box contains only the switch loop conductors (line in and switched leg out) and an equipment grounding conductor. No grounded (neutral) conductor is present in the switch box, and there is no raceway or other accessible wiring method that would allow a neutral to be added later without opening the finished wall.

Per the 2026 NEC, is this installation code compliant?

Jonathan Battles 406.30(C) requires a grounded conductor at switch locations controlling lighting loads unless one of the listed exceptions applies. In this scenario, no neutral is present in the switch box, and no exception applies (no raceway or accessible method to add one later), so the correct answer is (D). Great job, thank you for participating! 💪😎👍⚡
