Coffee Hour - Cancelation

We will not be having Coffee Hour this week due to my travel schedule. I am in Texas this week on business. Jeff is holding down the fort while I jet set to Encore Wire/Prysmian offices in McKinney TX.

Joshua Audette

Sound good chief, we'll be there in the next one.

230.85 (Emergency Disconnects) as a standalone section is deleted.

The requirements are consolidated into 230.70(A)(1) for one- and two-family dwellings.

That new language says the service disconnecting means must be installed outdoors (on the building or within sight of it, in a readily accessible location).

The marking provisions that were in 230.85 carry over — the service disconnect will still need to be marked as both:

“EMERGENCY DISCONNECT – SERVICE DISCONNECT”

So yes — moving forward under the 2026 NEC:

  1. For dwellings, you won’t be able to put the service disconnect inside anymore.

  2. The outdoor disconnect also serves as the emergency disconnect and has to be labeled accordingly.
